When i had a seizure the doctor said i had some brain damage. I dont remember anything of that day. My wife said to eat more fat because it coats the brain nerves, and the body looks for fat, when you have no fat (i dont) it looks for it anywhere, like the nerves. Could anyone comment on this.

Serfr - you had just one seizure? Not trying to minimize it, but people with Epilepsy often have many before its controlled with meds.

I knew someone in my dorm at University who was 20 and she had several seizures before she was put on the meds and it was controlled. When she was telling us about it, she never said she suffered brain damage from it. She was intelligent and didn't appear to have any issues and never mentioned any.

Also, the brain can heal.

Is there damage showing up on an MRI?

I don't know about the fat and nerves...I didn't know nerves contained fat?

But healthy fats are good for everyone.

I had a few seaizures when i got bartonella encephalitis. Tbh, the mental/psychiatric symptoms were/are so bad that i didn't even care. However, following the seizures all of my mental symptoms would be worse for a day or two. It's hard to decipher, though, because I'm so bad as it is.

Seizures can be from brain inflammation and yes, inflammation causes brain injury. I don't think for most of you guys it's anything permenant, though, as the neurons just sort of slow down or "hibernate" as a result of the inflammation.

Thanks Girlie and Aerorose. I hope your doing well today. The neuro scan said subdural hematoma and "autonomic failure due small fiber neuropathy"
What helps the brain to heal? I mix up words when i speak, walk erratically, etc. My wife said a nerve is surrounded by a sheath of fat?
When my father was on iv , one day they hooked him up with a bag of what looked like eggnog. I asked
what it was, they said "fat. Your body needs fat."

I started having seizures after getting bartonella. Under control now on anti-seizure meds and after a long time bart treatment, but I do feel my brain is also damaged.

The brain is comprised mostly of lipids (fats). So for that and other reasons, I've heard the same thing re: fats but not every fat is created equal.

You might try adding phosphatidylcholine (oral or IV if you can do it) and phosphatidylserine, I've found both to be good for brain. Of course there are a zillion other things too, but those two are two of my faves for brain repair, personally.
