Azithromycin + Bactrim for Bart - Anyone use this combo?

My LLMD told me to stop the Rifampin today due to the mild liver inflammation that has occurred after only 6 weeks on it. He's switched me to Azithromycin 500mg 1x/day, which I'll take with the Bactrim. I felt the Rifampin was really helping things along so I hate to stop it. We may consider it again at some point he said.

I'm curious if anyone has used this abx combo for Bart and how well it worked?

Mild liver inflammation? Was this determined from high liver enzymes? Or palpitating your liver?


Too bad if it was working...but hopefully you can go back on later if you don't get results with the Bactrim.

I'm on bactrim now with Ceftin and Mepron (for Babesia).

I previously did use Bactrim and azith. I believe it was working for the Bart as I had herxing but I had to go all herbal in July due to candida from ABX.

I had no bad side effects from that combo.

Yes I had slightly elevated blood work for the liver, but it was only the ALT. My LLMD confirmed it was mildly elevated, but I don't think he likes taking any chances so he had me stop.

The Bactrim I have been on for about 3 months I think. Initially when switching from lyme to treat bart my LLMD added bactrim to the doxy I was on and dropped the amoxicillin. Later the doxy was dropped and we added rifampin, but I only got about 6 weeks into that before I started showing elevated ALT levels.

Doc thinks the bactrim and azith work well together, so I was curious how it went for others. It must be doing something. I'm on day 3 now and my feet and leg symptoms have flared bigtime. All the gains I seemed to have made on rifampin are gone at this point. Hopefully this is a good sign.
