So my friend just got tested for Lyme Disease with a Western Blot serum test. Her results are below. Being she tested positive on band 23 I would say yes, she has Lyme as I am pretty sure that band is Lyme specific and probably had it before and is now reactivated since she is showing positive on IgG and IgM. Do you agree? Any idea what bands 66 and 58 are related to? She has major dizziness/imbalance issues and high Epstein Barr numbers as well as Shingles. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have read up a lot on 58 and 66 as I have both. Many of the scientific publications make band 66 sound 99.99% specific to Lyme. Several of the studies were looking at vaccine and test kit development for band 66.

I haven't found as much on band 58, but have seen some things that indicate it is highly indicative of borrelia exposure.

Also very few "healthy controls" had 3 IGG bands light up in most of the CDC studies I have read. Less than 3% I think.

I think your friend should get to an LLMD.

She is seeing a naturopath right now, who ran the test. I am curious to see what her naturopath says being by CDC standards she would be considered negative. I am not sure how Lyme literate her naturopath is but if she is not Lyme literate, I will refer her to the one I am seeing.

Do you think she should be on Doxy or is that not as helpful if you also have IgG bands showing? She has IgM and IgG showing.

Yes, you're correct - band 23 is lyme specific.

I wouldn't get caught up in the IgM vs IgG.

Doxy is a good antibiotic for lyme - but she will need a second one to go with it.

Best she sees a LL Dr. who knows what they're doing.

Thanks! I wasn't sure what the IgG/IgM meant as far as treatment goes. I guess it's the same either way, either the abx route or herbals. I think she prefers herbals but she's waiting to see what her Naturopath says at her follow up appt. next week. Her Naturopath did message her and said she is giving her a free session in some frequency machine she has at her office (not a rife machine but something else I have never heard of...omni something maybe?).
