Anyone successfully get out of jury duty? I just got a summons today. It's at the BIG courthouse in Los Angeles and unless I get a wheelchair, I won't be able to walk the long halls. I really don't think I can sit for the long days either. I'm trying to decide if I should just do it and suffer through it or try to get the whole doctor's note thing - which is a huge inconvenience. I'm also little afraid that "lyme" isn't going to be a good enough excuse to the superior court.

Ugh. Why.

Do you have any brain effects - like memory issues.. etc?

If so - they might not want you on the jury?

I don’t think I’d be a good candidate on certain days.

You don't need to say you have Lyme. You just need a doctor's excuse that you're not physically/mentally able to meet the requirements.

Oh yes, I got out of jury duty.

I had my dr write a letter and fax it over. In the letter he stated that I have multi system infectious disease which inhibits my abilities and that I am extremely unwell.

I had to fill out a form and on that form I wrote the whole darn truth. I did not say lyme but said I had a chronic illness which affects my brain function, memory, can't focus, and just not well enough to be out in the world and all the other fun stuff....you get it. All was true, nothing made up, but he really spelled it out for them which backed up what I stated on my form.

Funny thing, the jury duty notice said it would take two weeks to hear back if I needed to be excused. After my dr faxed the letter over, I got an email about an hour later dismissing me from service. My dr. faxed the letter within the hour I requested so my whole ordeal was over within two hours!!!

Oh thank the lord!!!

I got the jury notice when I was on ABX.

I asked if was acceptable to fall asleep during the trial because that's what would happen from insomnia as a symptom of lyme disease. It was a 1/4-1/2 page letter I wrote explaining I was not a good candidate.

They passed me up for better jurors.

I filled out a form our county had for health waiver, my LLMD completed a portion.
It specified Lyme and an expected 18 months needed.
Court clerk called and said the Judge waived me for 3 years!

My doctor wrote that I was being treated for anxiety and panic attacks. Never mentioned bartonella, lyme or babesia. I was excused.

My LLMD wrote a brief note on her Rx form stating I had Lyme Disease with neurological and physical disorders preventing me from participating as a jurist. I was summoned again for a grand jury two years later and sent in the same note. I still carry it with my auto registration just in case I need it if I get stopped and the jury duty issue comes up.
