I keep getting this weird drugged/drunk feeling and I think I might have figured out the culprit! Candida! It's been tripping me out lately. I will be sitting there and all the sudden I just feel really really weird and everything looks funny. I made a post a few months ago about this and we couldn't come up with any solid answers. But this makes sense! I was out of town and it happened pretty much everyday. Probably due to going off my diet and eating whatever was around at restaurants...etc.

So now all I need to do when I want to party is eat some bread or sugar! Lucky me!

Ethanol (alcohol) breaks down in the body to acetaldehyde before breaking down further to acetic acid. It just so happens that yeast cause a huge increase in acetaldehyde formation in the body. So in essence, you are correct.

Bumping this really old post because I've had suspicions that my most recent flare of feeling ever so slightly "drunk" is candida related. Or fungal related.

Drunk is probably not the right word, more like "buzzed". If one drank a few beers got a nice buzz and then stopped drinking and over the next couple of hours it almost completely wore off but still lingers a little. That's the feeling, just a buzz that is almost gone but wont quite go away.

I'm connecting some dots together on when had this symptom before and that's where I'm getting my suspicions from. Then I see this post and Georgia Hunters response and it can be plausible.

Can any yeast/fungal experts chime in?

Ive had that feeling too- in the past. And I had gut candida overgrowth quite a few times, it seems to like me.

I have this feeling and have for quite some time. I actually made the mistake of telling this ("I feel like Im a bit drunk all the time") to a doctor once and he wrote in my chart that I needed to talk to a Psych! Finally found a LLMD just over a month ago and he said along with the lyme and co, I could have candida overgrowth. He said we didn't have to test for it and would just start the Candida Detox for 30 days followed by the Candida Diet (in conjunction with Cowden and Nystatin and ketoconazole). Im on day 24 of the Detox, Ive really struggled and cheated twice (guilt). So I decided to request and test for candida last week and the test came back "fine". (I do not have the results in hand yet was just told "fine"). So i do not know what this means for me. None of my symptoms have changed in this past 28 days of treatment. Im feeling frustrated and confused.

No test? What?

There is a normal lab test for candida albicans itself, once it enters the blood stream. Its pretty common for it to go past the gut in chronically ill people. Quest and Labcorp have - these are normal labs used by many Drs.

I still have a lot of Nystatin left from my ABX treatment back in the fall. Hopefully they will help.

Starting to connect the dots more. The symptoms definitely gets worse right after eating, accompanied by gas and some bloating.

I don't think this is a coincidence. And then symptoms subsides about 2+ hours after a meal (I guess when the brunt of the digestion is over).

Having candida (yeast) and then feeding that yeast, is basically like drinking.
