Clarithromycin + amoxicillin for bartonella?

Hello,

Can anybody tell me about this combination, is it a good one to be on for bartonella?

I was on amoxy and biaxin - it didn't seem to touch my bart.


It's not a combo that is usually used to target bartonella.

Any suggestion on what to pair the biaxin with?

Also this is bart henselae if that makes a difference - I understood it's the toughest to treat if anything...

The bactrim does not work because of an apparent sulfa-allergy.

usually its paired with plaquinel to improve cell penetration.

Rifampin or Rifabutin

It shows the amoxicillin MIC to be 0.06 - 0.12 whereas rifampin is 0.03 - 0.06...they should be equivalent or close?

But I agree that rifampin appears to be better -- problem is I don't think I can give that to a 3 year old (the patient == my son).

I've read a lot that says that Clarithromycin actually hits bartonella pretty hard and I don't doubt that. I didnt feel much on rifampin except the first few days but I'm having issues with Clarithromycin . It definitely makes my symptoms flair which to me means herxing.

Right now I am taking both Clarithromycin and Rifampin. I think I am having more better days than I used to but still very up and down. I have a decent day followed by three or four terrible ones.
