I live in Haddam, CT. I have just been diagnosed with Lyme. I asked my dr for a Lyme test because I was having unexplained high blood pressure and landing in ER on a few occassions. On one occassion, I was there for 4 days and they did a CT scan of my head along with and MRI, a ultrasound of my heart and put me on a heart monitor for 24 hirs. Found nothing. I had my dr order a lyme test although most of the normal symptoms I did not experience. I chalked up the aches and pains to old age (I am 71). The test came back with all bands in IGG reactive and positive for burgdorferi. On IGM only one band was reactive (23) and I was negative for burgdorferi. She has put me on 100mg of doxycycline 2 times a day and for high blood pressure 50 mg a day but my blood pressure hasn’t changed in this week so she has upped it to 100mg and ordered a stress test. I would like to find a Lyme dr in my area to get a second opinion. Central CT.

Since you have started treatment you should begin some detoxing methods. When the bacteria is killed off, it can cause an increase in symptoms called a Herximer reaction.

You can find more information on detoxing, symptoms, testing on our "New to Lyme" start here thread which is at the top of the page.

It would be helpful if your MD would increase the doxy to 200 mg twice a day. The 100 mg dose is usually not enough and most llmd's treat with 2 or more antibiotics.

You may also want to get tested for co-infections at Igenix labs as the Lyme Bacteria rarely travel alone....ticks carry other infections such s Babesia, Bartonella and more.

You need to "enable" it.


Click on My Profile (upper blue bar - left hand side)

Then click on Edit Profile

Then scroll down and add your email address.

Click on "show my email"

Then scroll to the bottom and click 'submit'
