Plaquenil for bone pain

My lyme doc is putting me on this, 200 mg 2x/day for my recent bone pain and joint pain.

Dunno if I have babesia however.

I saw in another forum a few ppl cannot even tolerate 100 mg/day at first. Should I start lower or just try jumping in w/the 400/day?

I have read that. My lyme doc didnt mention it. I did have my eyes tested not long ago however.

Personally I'd give the full dose a shot and gauge response. It's possible you may have a strong herx, it could subside after a short period, but if it continues indefinitely (week after week) you may want to talk to your doctor about ways to ease into the medicine or if pulsing it is an option (I don't know how advisable that is with plaquenil, I don't know enough about it).

I'm supposed to start it myself pretty soon. I'm going in for a specific eye test to get a baseline. If you are going to be on it potentially for a while I think it's a good idea to let an ophthalmologist know and have them run the specific eye test to establish your baselines. Then get check-ups every year if I remember correctly.

I've taken Plaq several times in different combo's. I had the same dose. I found it very benign so jump right in to full dose.

I never heard that it can help bone pain. The main reason I've read was that it helps adjust cellular ph so macrolide class abx work better.

I've also heard it said that it is also a mild cyst buster.

It use to be used for Babs, but no longer a preferred drug.

Plaquinil has extremely long half life ....rhuemys love it for anti-inflammatory. I never took it ...when i got bart bone pain stopped . Something about gauge ur eyesight b4 and after

half life something like 30-40 days...so if you do have a bad reaction....you're gonna wait a long time for it to resolve....

Yes - need to have a baseline test - optic nerve...and follow ups.
