Anyone have issues with mental math?

Ever since the beginning of my symptoms i have a hard time doing mental math its like i cant hold 2 numbers long enough to compute an answer. For example 55+36 as soon as im done adding the last column i forget my answer for the first column. This really scares me as I’ve never had problems with this before. I can still get the answer and sometimes im able to remember the answer to the first column however sometimes i cant either. Almost feels like i have Adhd... i read that lyme can cause adhd i just dont see anyone else with this particular symptom

I’m not as sharp as I was before. But I wouldn’t call it adhd.

Something like 55 + 36 in my head isn’t a problem, but other things are.

I have this thing I do in the grocery store. As I’m putting the groceries on the conveyor belt I add up the $$ in my head- estimating/rounding it to nearest dollar a running total and see how close I get.

I’ve done it for years.

Well I’m not so sharp doing that now - and by the time the cashier says “hi” to me and gives me the total I’ve forgotten what my number was.

I do the same thing at restaurants and same thing - as soon as I’ve got the total in my head - it’s “gone” two minutes later.

It’s more of a short term memory issue.

I was a gifted mathematician in my younger years, but I find it more difficult these days to remember longer numbers. Increased oxidative stress from chronic infection and the subsequent reduction in SOD2 can lead to more memory problems. My mind and body aren't what they used to be and I can thank chronic infection for that.

That’s interesting but nothing like what im experiencing.. it seems almost like a dementia symtpom that im experiencing. I don’t think anyone else with lyme had trouble with mental arithmetic

When I first got sick and was untreated people would talk to me and I couldnt remember what they said. I would write a list of things to do and forget what was on it.
You get better with treatment and it goes - most of it. I am 66 now so I think I am allowed to forget things here and there.

I too have short term memory issues with numbers. Extreme difficulty counting cribbage hands, taking down phone numbers from a customer or off voice mail, and doing simple math in my head.

It has improved significantly with treatment. Hang in there.

Agreed, it does get better with treatment. Most of the brain issues that I had have resolved with treatment.
