Admin: Better post search would help out forum users

There is a lot of great info here that gets lost. Even lost from the original poster.

After being here for more than a few years, and pretty much "cured", I see many repeated questions on this forum. Questions that some forum members have answers to, but prob get tired and burnt out in answering the same thing many times over. Newbies have no idea how many same questions are asked here and we were all new one time.

It would be so much easier if we could access our own post history more than just the last handful from our profile page. Easier for our own topics as well as helping others out.

As far as answering repeated questions- At this point its getting easier to NOT answer vs writting paragraphs and repeating something already done in the past, but cant find. Speaking of seeing the "last handful", is it now moved somewhere else? - Il'l have to look more....

Two other forums I've used in the past fully "filled" your own posts in chronological with post header order on your personal password needed home page. It might have been by year too. You just scrolled down until you found that familiar post header/title.

Your recent posts are still there. It has been increased to 15 (was 10).

Just an FYI - you can contact the Admin - he doesn’t read all the forum posts - so he likely won’t see this.

Yes it would be great to access all our posts - I’m wondering if it would use up all the resources doing so...

Astro - have you thought about saving your information in a file and then you could just copy/paste the information you have quickly?

-Thats just more work after the work has been done. Should have started that long ago, but didn't think I'd be here this long. Other forums did it, so its automated and compacted somehow. Having it on the forum is easier / less effort, and accessible on whatever online device you are using.

I don't know how you're accessing your previous 15 posts...you can just click on your forum name in the post (left hand side) - and your most recent posts are there.

I think most people who get well leave the forum because they want to put it behind them....and are busy resuming their lives.
I don't think it's because they're tired of reposting the same information....( but of course I could be wrong)
But many do come back now and then to post.

I agree with astroman on all points. It really bugs me.

In the begining, I tried saving "important posts" in a folder on my computer, but that got old fast. I rarely use my computer now.

I am getting burned out and tired, answering the same stuff. I'm detail oriented myself and prefer to give, as well as receive, detailed information. It was very important to me, especially the first year.

Now, I sometimes shoot off short answers without explaining things. That doesn't help new people learn.

Rather than saving posts to a file on my computer, I save them as a bookmark in the "Lyme" folder of my browser. I realize I'm splitting hairs and the two are very similar. However, the bookmarks go with you on your device. At least, I think so. I don't have a SmartPhone and only use my desktop computer for web browsing.

Since the title of the post is the default name of the URL when saving, I try to make the titles of my posts descriptive. Still, when saving a link to one of my own posts, I sometimes edit the name to make it more descriptive, adjust capitalization, delete the "HealingWell Forum" text that's automatically appended, etc.

To me, this is probably the easiest, practical solution I can envision. The URLs are in a single folder, alphabetized, and I can use the 'Search' feature in the Bookmark Manager to search for keywords in the titles of the URLs. There may be a way to code something more useful into the forum's software. But, I'm not sure how likely that might be.

That's my free advice...and, worth every penny.

Short incomplete answers arent much better than nothing and just leads to more questions. It would be great to easily search for the original and re-post it.

Busy being the key word. I too, am getting on with my life but I still come to this place. I could have answered/helped people quite a few times the last month , but I didnt, since rewriting half a page is too time consuming. Im not the only one. The next step is to not help out, which is what most understandably do, and leave. We all have choices of what to do with our spare time. Might as well make it more productive when possible.

Yes descriptive titles are a help. Sometimes I even change them as the topic evolves. Saving and filing away in any form is more work - my point. If your hard drive fails, its all gone unless you save a back up.

Other forums did auto post saving/ easy look up 10-15 years ago.

I'm sorry you're frustrated with the forum. I don't have any ideas that would help...other than copying/pasting your lengthy and informative posts in a place where you could easily access it. It certainly 'beats' rewriting half a page each time...and getting frustrated.

Smart phones can store this information, too.

I hope you don't leave...

Lack of automated posting history was the first thing I noticed here years ago.

Not frustrated, just bring up points that other forums have had for quite a while.

Wow!!!

I do not like this new format of This forum. When using a handheld I can’t see much of the valuable information that I could see before.

This is way less user friendly.
Can we please fix this problem?

This thread is not about the new format, as finding old posting history was an issue with the old format too. Now we just see 5 more of our latest posts. No real difference.

There is a whole thread about the new format from earlier in the week, or last week depending on your location/time zone.
