Hi friends,
I've been gone a long time (2+ years) with no lyme symptoms, hooray
. But due to recent strange symptoms I have had a re-test and would greatly appreciate your help interpreting the results below. Symptoms are in the final paragraph--trigger warning due to some sad sensitive info.
Here are my test results from Stonybrook Labs in October 2014 after a tick bite in Hawai'i in 1984:
10.2014: CDC IgM: 23+ 41+ (POSITIVE by CDC standards)
Here are my test results from IgeneX in November 2014 and the new re-test results in November 2018:
11.2014: IGX IgM: 23+ 39+ 41++ 58+ 83/93+ 31IND (CDC & IgeneX POSITIVE)
11.2018: IGX IgM: 23IND 31- 39- 41IND 93- (CDC & IGX NEGATIVE)
11.2014: IGX IgG: 41+ 58++ 31IND (IGX POSITIVE)
11.2018: IGX IgG: 18- 23+ 28++ 30- 31+ 34- 39IND 41+ 45- 58- 66- 93- (IGX POSITIVE, CDC NEGATIVE)
My questions are:
1) Does it make sense to have done a re-test? Or, "once positive, always positive..."?
2) What happened to the other bands on the IgM, such as 58? I had that before, it let me know I had the European strain of lyme, Borrelia Afzelii. It's now gone from the IgM test page but was tested for on the IgG result page.
3) And why/how am I showing a new antibody of 28 on the IgG test? Have the tests gotten more sensitive?
4) Is Traveler still here? <3
<Trigger warning for following sad info>
I wanted to re-test because I recently was pregnant and something didn't feel quite right. Although the chromosomal tests came back great and baby was developing perfectly, something felt strange. The first 10 weeks I had really bad all-day morning sickness, then two weeks of feeling good, which felt normal since this is when morning sickness usually subsides. But all the while my stomach actually hurt/felt tender when I walked and I gained a pound a week--too much too fast. I then took a long plane ride; after a few days there I woke up out of my sleep with a raging headache and feeling like I got hit by a truck. I flew home when that trip was over but that headache lasted for one month straight, accompanied by very low blood pressure (90s/60s for a month, then 80s over 50s for the last week of pregnancy), dizziness, extreme fatigue, weakness, and shortness of breath. My obstetrician chalked it up to regular pregnancy so I instead went several times to my primary care physician with my complaints. She listened when I told her that my symptoms felt exactly like when I was being treated for Lyme disease. (Although I am back in Hawai'i and don't know of any LLMDs, I feel lucky with this PCP because she is
open-minded, natural-health-leaning, and
open to learn about
Lyme.) She signed off on my blood work to be re-done at IgeneX and was willing to treat me during pregnancy if the lyme tests came back positive *and if my old LLMD would consult with her by phone to advise on treatment. Unfortunately, I lost the baby halfway through the pregnancy. There are no answers so far as to why this happened so I am wondering if Lyme could be the culprit. I also recently found out that I have a common MTHFR mutation as well as a PAI-1 mutation; together, these blood clotting issues often combine to lead to late losses in pregnancy. I am posting this so I can begin to determine if I need to treat lyme again or if I should move ahead with treating the mutations before trying to have another healthy full-term pregnancy. Thanks so much for any help. ~Maui
