I have had these feelings immediately during and after taking Minocycline. One thing I didn't know was that "neurotransmitters" which I had assumed only existed in the brain for some reason, are located throughout the body, my very old primary doc told me, in the stomach, intestines and gut, so it gives new meaning to a "gut feeling" especially considering what scientists are now discovering about the GI tract and microbiome...
Anyway, my hypothesis on why these weird anxious fluttering feelings happen in the gut, both after taking antidepressants as well as antibiotics, or oddly after taking probiotics, is that in the process of dying off, or the re-shuffling of cultures, microorganisms doing battle in the gut secrete their "death chemical" which can set off a cascade of reactions, and if one is not careful, a dangerous Herxheimer reaction, like yeah sometimes life-threatening and/or certainly feeling like one is at death's door.
I was so psychologically frightened by my first day of Minocycline and Metronidazole that I ceased all ABX immediately...and I'm a grown man who has experienced a lot in life.
Lyme brain moment...I just realized this post was about PRO-biotics...well considering that, what strain was it? Lactobacillus?..etc...some may be more aggressively prolific than others.
So as in feeling like something is wrong which I find almost instantly attributable to diet, and yes there are things wrong in the environment, in life, in the world that also gives us that feedback ie. cognitive dissonance which is useful, but having an inflamed gut and stress cortisols with Lyme n Co and friends can 10X this effect.
Which is why when I eat salad and cabbage superfood kits, strictly I sort of feel OK.
And it is no exaggeration that a Herx flare is a lower quality of life than after congestive heart failure. Like if there were a misery index, a TBI herx would be near the top, which should keep me more mindful about my diet anyway.
TL;DR
I thought this post was about ABX causing anxiety weird fluttering feeling, which I thought you meant Minocycline which has long been associated with crossing the blood brain barrier and a natural agitator of mood and feelings.
But Probiotics? In my experience they've always mellowed me out and reduced my overall symptoms. Maybe you got a weak strain or bought a cheap brand and it wasn't enough to overcome your overall toxic load? I dunno.
