I have been in treatment since 2012. I am now treating Bartonella with Azithromycin and low dose Rifampin. When I started treatment my blood pressure varied and would go up to 220/120 but didn’t stay that high for days. For the past 2 weeks it has risen to 210/90’s. My gp is aware of this and has changed my bp meds due to Irbesartan being taken off the market. My bp was in that high range while on them, too. I know many Lymies deal with high bp problems but I am very concerned how high it is. Does anyone know why this happens to us?

I do take Motherwort, Girlie. Thank you for the link. Not doing well for the past 1 1/2 years but continue to keep the faith. Gp suggests I go to the hospital to have the bp checked out. Just such a hassle and I have reactions to many meds.

Is your lyme Dr any help - what does he say?

My LLMD won’t be back in the office until the first of February due to hip surgery. My go suggests going to the er so getting ready to have it checked out.....grrrr!!

I have read different answers in the past on this. Some have said it's from low magnesium because of Lyme. I've struggled with high blood pressure but never had low magnesium count. One that seems to make sense is Lyme and co-infections can "gunk up" blood vessels, pushing up pressure.

In addition to helping with breaking up biofilms and cysts, serrapatese and nattokinase could help break up the gunk, if that is what is causing it. Also, are your magnesium levels normal? Don't know if either of those would be what is going on, but just thoughts.

Getting the blood pressure under control has been near impossible for me. I struggle with so many medications and have tried every natural means to help. Hope you find the answer to problem because, I have learned, HBP can lead to other problems. Hoping you the best.

For those temporarily using BP meds, keep in mind the different types work from different angles so they can have different results for sure. Example: some change the "vein mechanics" and some lower adrenals, the result of either can lower BP.

On that note Summers is obviously very high, hope you figure this out soon.

Running wild, my bp varied considerably a few years ago until recently. Thank you for your input.
Girlie, I did not go to the ER. I started researching Rifampin and found out it interacts with levothyroxine and some bp meds. I stopped taking the Rifampin and my blood pressure dropped to 150/75. I had my bag packed for the hospital and all arrangements made for my children to stay with my husband who had a brain bleed in 2014. I just called my llmd’s office and the receptionist will get back to me for further instructions.
I have a few questions that need to be answered and will post them later.

Glad your blood pressure has come down. Good work sleuthing out re: meds causing it.
