Some great perspectives in this thread.
For me, I'll consider myself being in remission when my daily life and routine is dictated by
me rather than by the infections. To unpack that a little: I don't mean when I am no longer taking any medications/supplements, but rather that those things are no longer getting in the way of doing what I want to do.
Right now for example I have to plan everything around my routine - some meds require an empty stomach, some required fatty foods, some need to be taken away from another, some need to be combined. Similarly, I'm on a restrictive diet to keep detox pathways
open and inflammation low.
So I have to double check every social invite; I have to avoid my favourite restaurants; I can't drink a cider on the first sunny day of the year. I can't stay out too late; I can't see friends on Tuesdays or Thursdays because those are IR sauna days; I can't take week long trips for work despite my boss being keen for me to; I can't jog the local parkrun on Saturdays.
I can envisage a point in time - hopefully in the near future - where I am still taking supplements to boost the immune system, eating healthily, perhaps still on a Buhner maintenance protocol, etc.,
but am able to live my life on my terms. That is what remission looks like to me.
