I started BVT at the beginning of the month. Now I'm up to 10 stings 3x a week. The first few sessions gave me really strong head pressure/ache herx. Now the herx is mostly in my neck and shoulders. The swelling and itching at the sting site was bad at first, but not too bad now. There is a nice energy and mood boost right after a sting session. The stings do hurt, but only for a few minutes...so worth it if it ends up helping. I think it's to early to expect any noticable improvements yet...hopefully soon.

I read the recent BVT threads, but if anybody has any other bee venom experiences to share, I'd love to hear more.

I'm interested in BVT too.

How do you do it? Do you go to an apiary and just ask if they have extra bees? It seems like if you go to a beekeeper and ask them nicely if you can get some bees from them, I don't see why they wouldn't just let you; especially if you explained to them how you have lyme disease and how the melittin in bee venom is a powerful medicine for it.

I almost went and tried to catch some bees around the yard with a simple paper towel roll trap, and I also made a honey trap that didn't work, using a cut-in-half plastic 2-liter bottle...

Do you keep an epi-pen handy? Were you ever allergic to bees as a kid? Do you self-administer with those reverse-tweezer things? Where on your body do you sting? Aren't you supposed to do it near the spine if possible?

Sorry for the twenty questions, just very interested!

I follow the protocol popularized by Ellie Lobel. Check out her YouTube vids on bee venom therapy. Always do a test sting your first time, and always keep an EpiPen handy and know how to use it.
We use the reverse tweezers, but regular tweezers work too. I'm lucky enough to have a bee keeper in the family so my bees are free, but you can get them by weekly shipment through the mail.
I also am lucky enough to have a family member who administers the stings, one inch on each side of my spine.

BB just make a 50/50 sugar water solution and set it outside on a shallow dish. The bees will find it in no time. Then use your reverse tweezers and pick them off of the dish one at a time. If your weather is 50 or warmer bees will find ths sugar solution. As stated above make sure you have an epi pen and liquid benadryl handy.

I have been doing BVT for almost 2 years now. I do between 15 and 20 3x week now. I am a beekeeper and was long before all of this lyme and co's came along. The question of giving bees or even selling them to BVT patients comes up all the time on a beekeeping forum I belong to. Most of the time everyone agrees it is to risky and involves to much liability for the beekeeper. The scenario of a bad reaction leading to death and an angry family suing is talked about as the main reason.

LostCoast and WVMike, thanks for the replies and sensible guidance. I don't blame beekeepers from being wary, after all we have many litigious people here in America. I'm still looking into it, and will be sure to prepare my treatment properly with epi pen in hand, tools and etcetera. We had a scarily large bee hive in our oak tree in the front yard, I think we got some wax honey combs from it, didn't know about BVT then. I remember the droning buzzing hive was mesmerizing, they had all swarmed to that one part of the tree, and the number of bees was more than I had ever seen up close.

I have seen some people going up to 20 stings, and some people max out at 10.
What do you think about 10 sting vs 20 sting protocol?
