Hey guys,

Just had my follow up with the J clinic. Finally after 11 months of babesia treatment, Im moving forward to Bartonella Treatment. Super scared lol Ill be taking Rifabutin... Can anyone tell me what i can expect on that med?? Thanx!

I took rifampin and rifabutin for 8 months under Dr M and had no troubles. The only weird thing was that my pee turned orange

Btw, have you seen any improvement so far with Dr J?

Physedgirl - I only did about 5 months of Babesia treatment... and since I am always second guessing my treatment - wondering now if it was long enough.

Do you know why/what the reason was for you being on that long?

Are you doing Persister drugs (D and D) with the Rifabutin?

I found the colour of pee way more affected with Rifampin compared to Rifabutin.

Aerose: omg yes I’ve improved so much being with them..best decision I made (and the bonus is not being on abx 7 days a week!)

Girlie: I think I showed lots of babesia symptoms this past 11 months so I think that’s why she kept me on..I guess she wanted to make sure it’s being knocked back. I was only on dariprim..never on dapsone..not sure why but I also never asked. I guess we are all different who knows.

Dr J says Babesia is the “engine”

He does biofilm treatment concurrent with Babs treatment early on.

It's always so interesting to hear what LLMD says about what might be the "driver".
I know Marty Ross believe Bartonella should be adressed first. (this info can easily be found in his blog or videos).

That said, my current LLMD also had me start with Babesia first.

I just started his bart protocol. cef,rifabutin,septra,daraprim,,art,enula,crypt. plus flagyl,diflucan 2 days I made it to mid day today 5th day but don't think I'll be taking tonights dose. Herx is too much, I cannot function. I guess that means it's working

Trekkar - is the Daraprim for 5 consecutive days but the Rif, bactrim and Ceftin for m/w/f?

No dapsone tho?

What’s ur week 2 look like?

If I made it through week 1 it was difficult to do my week 2 when scheduled (it was scheduled for M/T/W - not enough recovery time after week 1

Oh - you took daraprim with the Babesia protocols...

I didn’t take daraprim until the Bart/persisters protocol (after Babesia protocol)

Ya daraprim 5 straight days, so is everything else except for ceftin and rifabutin those are only M/W/F.
And no dapsone.

Week 2 is Cef,Rif and mino M/W/F. They did give me the option of taking cipro but I'm sticking with mino for now.

And I choose to take the flagyl/difuclan thursday and saturday this week. I couldn't handle a nother pill this morning

The Cipro would have replaced the Rifabutin - not the mino, right?

That’s better than the m/t/w I had.
I often had to postpone it a day or two or three because I needed to recover from the week 1

Most cycles I herxed on the Friday of week 1 with fever, high heart rate, and all over body pain...

No it would have replaced the mino, so omnicef,cipro and rif m/w/f or m/t/w my choice

I herxed severely on the rifabutin.

At first I thought it was the D and D but it turned out to be the Rifabutin.

Ya I wouldn't want anymore than I already got. I was doing pretty well up until the Friday morning dose about an hour after them all it hit. Need to do safety labs now and hopefully I'll be able to start up again on Monday. I can deal with most of the herx, the kidney area pain is what concerns me.

I'm not sure I herxed on the Babs, mostly nausea but I thought that was just from the mepron. The first night of this protocol I felt things almost popping in my head wasn't necessarily painful just strange.

I was terrified to start the Rifabutin but it's been fine -- easier than the babs protocol so far. (On my second bart cycle now.) The biggest problem so far is skin itching and mild burning, but extra antihistamines have helped with it. I have brain fog, some dizziness, and tooth sensitivity / mild jaw pain, but nothing dramatic, thankfully. Good luck!

How long into babesia treatment did you start seeing improvement?

Hey hey

I prolly started feeling better like 4months in. It was so back n forth to be honest.... But the greatest improvement I've made its that my platelets have been on normal range for the past 5months!!!! They have always been low...Like at one point they were at 89 ( normal is 140 to 350). Lately they've been 150 to 170. Huge improvement
