I do eat some fruit and for me it seems to be much less of a problem than refined sugar but it's hard to tell.
Reflecting on my six years with Lyme (before I knew what the issue was) I can look back and see some element of my lifestyle that made me well / less well..
Eg: Macdonald's, KFC, beer, sweets, icecream and work stress = 3 months confined to the floor in pain with headaches and sciatica.
I then recovered during my time on the floor as I happened to try a diet of fish and stir fry only for a few months + got a friend to drive me to the pool every day.
However after scraping myself off the floor I slipped back and ended up with a lot of other symptoms. Maybe due to stopping the fish / stir fry diet.
When I got a diagnosis I was pretty quick to buy into the importance of diet and excercise due to the above experience.

“It sounds like it doesn't work for everyone but my very unscientific take based on reading people's stories is that recovery always seems to involve:
1. No sugar diet / often paleo
2. antibiotics and/or herbal protocol such as buhner / cowden.
3. Lots of excercise.
Not saying this always works but my reading is for those who do recover well always follow each of the three points above.
Ie: diet and excercise are essential.”
When you say sugar - you mean white/processed sugar - or are you also talking about high sugar fruits, simple carbs etc?
I don’t think there is one way to heal. I know someone who did change her diet -but exercise wasn’t a priority - except for walking a few times a week.
Also - the diet choice varies - some limit meat - others are protein heavy (including meat)
