Lice - prophylaxis?

We came back from vacation with lice. (Lovely.) I'm worried about the possibility of this spreading our infections to my youngest with no known infections so far. He shared a bed with me and I have the three Bs. Most sources say head lice don't spread disease, but body lice are known to spread trench fever, which is a bart strain, so it's clearly possible.

So. What would you do for prophylaxis? Our doctor agreed to abx (cefuroxime or amoxicillin) for 1 month or herbals for 3 months. Normally I do abx for prevention, but I'm not sure either of those would take care of bart. Herbals I don't trust as much but she pointed out that it would have broader coverage.

A different doctor once put him on azithromycin for prophylaxis after a cat scratch.

What would you do? An antibiotic, and if so, which one? Or the herbals? And why?

It's a tough decision -

if you choose abx, I would do the ones the J clinic suggested. (If it is them who you referred to)

I would do abx because when lyme and co's are treated early or as a prophylactic ...they're effective.
I'm not so sure about herbals. (My opinion)
Would these be daily dosing...or pulsing?


What about a combo of abx and herbals?

Yes, the lice have been treated.

It wasn't the J clinic. It was a local LLMD who is our PCP. It would be daily. I asked the J clinic but haven't heard back yet, and they probably won't advise me on this because he's not a patient.

I was just thinking of abx plus herbals too. I feel the same way about herbals for a new infection.

Maybe 3-4 weeks on the abx with longer duration of herbs?
Oh right - if he’s not a patient (DrJ clinic) they prob won’t give advice...
