What do you define as long periods of time? Sitting is terrible for backs period correct or incorrect posture.
I have had bad lower back pain to the point where I would get nauseous for sitting more then 10 minutes as my lower back had close to zero flexion. Nothing ever showed up on a MRI other then a healthy back! Its gotten better as I strengthened my core muscles but no where near normal. I do core strengthening exercises planks front and side, bird dogs, cat/camel, foam role, tennis ball rolling around on. I doubt you have arthritis. I wish I could suggest something better.
It was my first symptom.
On point here^.
Had all that too, and more. When my core was out of whack, it was hard to get up from sitting and id be hunched over. The front quad muscle tendons and Psoas would shorten up, get stuck when sitting. And continue when standing for a couple min's. I La-Cross ball'ed (on floor) the heck out of my entire core (front lower core most), then exercised it once loose. No pain no gain in fixing this in my case.
You need a chiro that knows muscle, not just joints. The Young ones usually learn both - its more education.
