Is it hard to eradicate bartonella?

Yes!

Especially if you have had it for a long time.

I think I have had it since I was a young child.

Well it’s considered chronic - yes I’d say a couple years is quite long.

I should clarify - even though I think I’ve had it since a child - I was quite healthy growing up but with a few anomalies along the way.

Then symptoms came on in 2013 and was undiagnosed for about 16 months before starting treatment.
Mine is proving to be stubborn.

Isnt there ONE good bart test..........................(Galaxy labs ??)

Bart is really difficult. It goes into the red blood cells periodically, but much of the time it is not present in blood, and not detectable. Out of three tries, I got only one positive result with a PCR test.

Like Quin, I have a hard time getting a positive, though I have two positives. But that is out of about 8-10 tests over the years. Also, it's hard for me to tell if it is Bart or something else by symptoms.

I'd spend what is needed if I knew the results would be correct.

Interestingly - I got a positive pcr for bart with an unknown lab in Ontario, Canada.
A LLND asked me if I wanted to try it since each infection only cost $125 for blood and urine.

That was after over a year of treatment

Hey Girlie - This isn't doubting, just a question. You feel good it was a real positive and not false? That's a good price for testing. Last Armin Lab test I did had negatives for Lyme, Bart and Babesia. $650.00. But I know that can't be true based on symptoms.

Since it was pcr - can’t be a false positive - right?

And even with antibody testing - no false positives - just false negatives if you’re immune system isn’t capable of producing the antibodies

And I still had active symptoms st the time - some that have resolved since further treatment at the j clinic.

That makes sense. Again, wasn't questioning it, just learning a bit. I am tired of paying so much for tests. I've tried to get the doctor here to order through Labcorp, which I have had positives on before. That way my insurance will cover all of it. She seems reluctant to do so. No disadvantage to it but ordering them. If it is negative, then I could send off and pay. If positive, then we know it is real.

So the pcr means they identified the DNA of the bacteria in your blood (or urine)

With a WB it’s based on immune response.
So you could show positive even once you’re in remission - as your immune system could continue to produce the antibodies for awhile.
But not necessarily a false positive - but a delayed response...

No worries - about questioning it... I “know” you well enough to know that you’re a respectful, polite, nice person...

I got a positive Bartonella test from DNA ConnXions urine test (PCR). Oddly, though I have had many cats throughout my life, I never have tested positive for Bartonella henselae, the kind most people with Lyme seem to have. The type I have is very rare, Bartonella bacilliformis. Bartonella species can be cross-reactive on tests, but bacilliformis has some unique features that I definitely had around the time my health began to decline, so I believe the test to be correct.

Many practitioners who treat Lyme believe that Lyme and co-infections are largely clinical diagnoses, so if you have the symptoms of Bartonella, then they will assume Bart is in the mix, especially if you have at least one other tick-borne infection and/or a history of exposure to ticks.

It's hard to eradicate, like Borrelia is, but not impossible.

I tested positive for Bart (and Lyme) through Armin -- but negative for Babesia. It feels like 99% of my symptoms are from Bart.

Familiar words - "Hard to eradicate." Bart, Babesia, Borrelia, EBV. Even kidney situation is one I can only hope to control. Lyme is a crazy world, but all you can do is all you can do.

I was initially diagnosed w Lyme in Aug through LabCorp WB test...just started with LLMD on 2nd round doxy when Bart diagnosis came in last night from Igenex ($500). 10 strands(?) and 2 were positive. LLMD said doesn't matter, Bart is attacked the same no matter what strands show up. Apptmt next week to see what that will be.
