Sorry I've been so MIA. Truth is, I've been on a deep depression the past few months because I'm practically bald... My hair has been consistently freaking out for 8 months now... It is so depressing. I'm embarrassed to go out.... I know everyone around me stares at me but they just don't know what to say.
I've made an appt with a trichologist for this Sunday as a last resort.. They are gonna do a bunch of testing to see if they can figure out what's going on...
Has anyone seen one before?

I'm so sorry to hear this. These illnesses can change us in ways that certainly feel disfiguring. Being upset about that isn't vanity; this is yet another way that this illness has changed you and your body without your consent. I can tell you a hundred times that bald women are beautiful, but I know that's just not the point!

An anecdote: When my mom was around 30, she lost most of her hair from all over her head. It just fell out and no one ever knew why and it didn't grow back. She felt self-conscious about it every day of her life for twenty years. Then she got a weave. It's the color, texture, and style of hair she always wanted. I am very proud of her. This might not be the answer for you - a weave or a wig - but I thought I'd offer the story anyway, just in case.

Also consider scarves, hats, head wraps, etc. This illness is hard enough without feeling self-conscious all the time, and being isolated because of it. I'm so glad that you found a specialist. Do you have any support about the depression?

I have lost a tooth to this disease. I have a little one-tooth denture filling in the space, and I do not go out in public without it. Fair or not, it changes how people think of you, how seriously doctors take you, etc. Not exactly the same as what you describe, but similar.

Please remember that how you feel right now is temporary! Hang in there.

Did you test your hormone levels? Wondering if that’s playing into it.


Does your NP at the J clinic have any ideas? Have they seen this before?
(Or are you not going there anymore?)

girlie- I don't go to the clinic anymore cuz I just cant afford it... I been trying but I just cant do it... I have small kids im raising and I just cant make it work.
I have to figure this out... its driving me off a cliff!

I am sorry to hear this physedgirl sad My hair was falling out like crazy at one point, it was very very depressing.
My doctor said that there are two types of hair loss: scarring and non-scarring. The scarring one destroys the hair follicle and is irreversible, while with the non-scarring one hair can grow back. She looked at my hair and said it was a non scarring hair loss. I have no idea how she came to that conclusion, but I decided to believe her.

Many months later I realized my hair loss was from mold toxicity, so I am not sure I can give advice on what could work (getting out of mold and taking kelp helped in my case, but I am experiencing some hair loss again with autumn, and my hair in the front hasn't fully grown back yet). However, I want to say that I had found many articles and blog posts online about people with lyme having lost all of their hair and after they went into remission their hair fully grew back!

This is very interesting and encouraging, Zimica. I didn't realize that mold toxicity could lead to hair loss, but I suppose anything that stresses out the system could. The only thing that has caused hair loss for me is hormonal contraception. Funny how we all work so differently.

In my consult notes, my PA noted I have some hair loss. It's not enough to really tell by looking at me, but I have noticed that it falls out more when I'm relapsed. When I was improving, the hair loss lessened. Hormonal for me perhaps?

I told you before that I went through a hair loss phase myself. I bought a wig from a costume store and wore that for a while, and then once my hair grew out a little bit I got extensions. I still wear them because my hair is just starting to get long again (it's just barely past my shoulders whereas before it was a very sparse bob basically).

There is something called tellogen effluvium which might be what you're going through. It's when your hair starts falling out due to stress on the body. It happens to people who lose a lot of weight as well as sick people. Anything that is a stressor on the system basically.

Physedgirl- hi I joined the forum back in Aug/September.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I have heard and have a friend that has the MTHFR mutation and had hair loss. Once she got this diagnosed and on hydroxocobalamin B 12 her hair grew back.

Also, a stressful event can cause this. Not saying you're like my friend but is an idea. Another thing that can cause this is lupus, there have been cases of lyme-induced lupus. Talk to your doctor or LLMD.

hi guys!

so i went to the trichologist who is wayyyyy more informed than any dr ive ever seen!!! she is hollistic and knew so much about lyme!! she did a zyto scan and omg my body is a hot mess!!! everything i suspected was confirmed.. she put a probe on my scalp and showed me all the inflammation that is all over my scalp... it was scary to see. She said in order for my hair to correct, my body needs to be corrected... so i am going to herbally work with her to try and get my body in better balance and see if it works... i see her again in 2 months (for free) and she is going to scan my head again and see if progress is made... in the meantime, im gonna wear a wig, messy hair bun, or extensions to get by

Awesome!! I hope this lady is able to really help you get your whole body back on track. That would solve a lot more than just the hair loss.

What is a trichologist? How did you find her? What state is she in?

a trichologist specializes in hair loss and stuff. but the one i found knows alot about lyme and she said gut issues usually result in hair loss because it lowers the immune system....so shes working on boosting up my immune system and fixing my gut.... she is in NJ

I was losing hair and lost more when herxing, but I got better with treatment with naturals
