Just double checking here - helping out a friend.

She lives in CT. I believe she has lyme. She is a Vet and has 3 kids. She was totally fine and then one day she could not walk. This all happened so fast. Her hip is all messed up. They did aspiration and tested the fluid (which is all they see on MRI, no finding on XRay), but it came out negative. I just want to be sure that if Lyme was present, it would not necessarily show up upon testing the fluid. I am sure this is the case. Just wondering if there was any other bacteria present, like Strept or Staph, it would have indeed showed up? The doctors can't help her. One doctor gave her doxy for 2 weeks and she got progressively worse. She is currently on Prednisone and it has helped minimally. She is crying everyday - she is a 44 year old like a 90 year old and this all happened in a matter of weeks. I can't think of what else it could be?!!

I think I would agree with Girlie, the fluid may not show lyme.
I would add that if it is lyme, prednisone is a steriod used to suppress the immune system, according to what i read on it. I don’t think that is good, if it is lyme
