Anyone on trileptal for nerve pain?

Hi, who is using trileptal for nerve pain, especialy neuropathy, and did you have an rapid effect?

I am now using gabapentin but its to weak for the pain and only starts to work after 5 hours. Want to add trileptal but prn. Hope it has a rapid onset.

You said it takes 5 hours to work - don’t you take it two or three x a day?
It should stay in your system ?

Gabapentin each dose need 5 hours for effect for me...

I’m just reluctant to take any pharma - other than the antibiotics.
So I wasn’t even comfortable taking the gabapentine.
I google and read all the potential side effects.

I don’t really like taking all the abx but I feel it’s necessary and it’s my best chance to get well.

Gabapentin and trileptal doesnt touch the brain receptors directly that is good. But benzos, ssri, antipsychotics are evil drugs because they disrupt receptor balance in the brain.

The effect of gabapentin its like a wave effect if you know what i mean

I wouidnt recommend psych dugs - maybe only for very short term use in a crisis.

People have reported being addicted to gabapentine and getting off it is difficult.
probably applies to higher doses and long term use.

Thats why i also want to take trileptal PRN. But i need feedback from others.

Christian - has it been suggested that you take both the gaba and trileptal?

PRN is take as needed.

Thanks, Girlie. My PA gave prescriptions for both and gave recommendations for doses. Wanted me to try each one by itself, so I would know how they worked and have them in my "toolbox" for when needed. Gave recommendations for dosage; said I could even take both together. I do think she wanted me on at least one to help with the nerve pain and sleep. At this point, I'm only taking 100mg Gabapentin per day. I do think it has helped with nerve pain and possibly sleep. Don't really want to up dose unless necessary.

isitlyme, are you referring to Gabapentin? If so, I think it took a few days to build up and give me relief but do think it helped with my shooting burning sensations/other nerve pain. When I was off for a few days to try Trileptal and then went back on Gabapentin, I think the affect was within a day or so. As I said before, I'm not really sure what happened there because it was also my time of month. I've just had no desire to stop the Gabapentin and try the Trileptal again. My pain is not usually extreme, and many times, it seems worse when I lay down at night.

A question would be - did I give Trileptal enough time?

My llmd prescribed both for my neuro lyme symptoms.
Both worked well for me.
I started on gaba 300 at 9 pm each evening and went up 300 after 3 or 4 days until I reached relief,for me I was at 2700 for relief, after 18 months I slowly lowered until off without problems.
This along with trileptal, dosing at 10 am and 2 pm, also starting low and only increasing after 3 or 4 days and lowered after 18 months to stop.

Listen to your body. If it helps you’ll know

isitlyme, regarding the Trileptal, I don't really know if it helped me much at all so can't say it gave any immediate affect. I don't have continuous pain either so that makes it harder to judge.

Village sorry to bother, was it for pain? Nerve pain?
