Itchy swollen freckles/moles that scab over

Something that has been going on with my daughter for a couple months now is different freckles or possibly moles (don’t know the difference) will swell up and begin to itch. Have only noticed this on her arms. The mole will look inflamed and have a raised spot/small knot in the middle for a few days. It will then return to normal and feel flat.

In a few days, a different one will begin the process again.

Anyone experienced this or know what could be causing this?

Is it possible that she isscratching/picking the moles or is this just happening?

I guess even if she was scratching them - it means they’re itchy ....

She isn’t scratching until they begin the cycle of puffing up and then they get itchy. I haven’t noticed any bleeding. Just reddened, swollen, and raised for a couple days, then they flatten back out.

And only one at a time. Weird.

I have not had or heard of this particular symptom. Are you aware of what Morgellon’s is? It might be something to check into. I would let the LLMD know as well, as it could be an indicator of something.

I've had the exact same thing—moles on my legs, back etc. get itchy, swell up and start to bleed. After they heal, they usually turn out a different color(usually lighter). I don't think it's skin cancer—they don't spread.

I do know about morgellons but have seen no skin symptoms other than the above mentioned.

I have had what sounds like the same thing too for several years - at first I thought I was just very unlucky and getting mosquito bites on top of my moles/freckles which is silly smile

It's an annoyance but hasn't given me any cause for concern personally. I'm not sure what the cause is but my (uneducated) guess is that it's perhaps where the skin on top of a bumpy mole goes through its process of shedding, it can cause a slight irritation. The itch feels a bit like a histamine reaction, so it could also perhaps be something to do with an over-enthusiastic immune system.

I really don't know - just wanted to share that I have the same and it hasn't caused me any problems or become worse.

I would suggest you see a dermatologist to get this checked out!

This could be a condition called Urticaria Pigmentosa. It has a more modern name that I can't recall.
It's very little researched and many dermatologists may not have seen It so do your research first. It may be of interest that if you look up Dr Tania Dempsey (American I think) there is considered to be a link for allergic conditions affecting mast (allergy cells) and lyme

I had this but I wasn’t sure if it was from sun exposure. My mole would get itchy and a small scab/pimple would pop up next to it. I never thought if was from Lyme but I haven’t had it in a long time so it could be related as I’m symptom free now.
