Naltrexone stopping Herxing and got a cold?

Hey everyone.

I hope you all are well.

As you recently know I was Herxing pretty well and everything was going along pretty smoothly....however my doctor wanted me to get on naltrexone to lower my thyroid antibodies...the lady who takes care of my Lyme doesn’t agree with naltrexone as it suppresses your immune system. Well I tried it for two days and my herx stopped and I ended up getting a cold. I feel my Lyme lady is right but that my doctor also has my best interests at heart.

What would you do in this situation?

Hi is this low dose naltrexone? I feel it’s helped my immune system, it helped stop my HSV2 outbreaks as well. I’ve heard good things about it but everyone’s body is so different so if it’s not working great for you I’d stay off it. Good luck

LDN isn’t known to suppress the immune system - instead it normalizes it.

“ FDA-approved naltrexone, in a low dose, can normalize the immune system — helping those with HIV/AIDS, cancer, autoimmune diseases, and central nervous system disorders.“

The above statement is from the website on ldn that I always refer to.
It’s rudimentary - but lots of good info. I found it prior to my lyme diagnosis in 2014 - when I was searching for an answer to help with my horrible pain.

LDN does not suppress the immune system, it does the opposite. My LLMD prescribes it.

Thanks for your help guys. Maybe I’ll start it back up and just try to take it in the mornings because it gives me terrible dreams if I take it night!

Hashimotos is one of those AI diseases that can reverse. People often reverse it with diet alone. I like the idea of naltrexone for it. I just got a prescription myself to help w/ my AI issue. Starting this week. Did you find naltrexone has any side effects with it? Are you still able to drink on it?

If i were you I'd add the naltrexone back in. I'd also focus on gut health. Completely cut out sugar and anything processed, go paleo if you can. Just posted this under RunningWild's thread "New Approach, More Symptoms"

Yeah I definitely have autoimmunity especially as they weren’t sure and still aren’t if I have lupus so anything to help the nasty AI symptoms would be nice.

I am doing a diet cleanse right now too so I’m hoping that helps. The diet has been causing pain lately so I hope that subsides. Your post is encouraging for us AI peeps

LDN has worked great for me. I find it unlikely the cold would be related to your usage of it.
