I've had this symptom a few times, I think due to a few different things.
1. Anything that compresses or tenses the nerves in the sides of my neck (lying on my side to read, sleeping on my stomach with a pillow that's too thick, extra tension, etc.).
2. Typing in a certain position that compresses the nerves in my elbows or wrists.
3. Nerve inflammation following a transient virus, pushing too hard, and/or a general symptom flare. In this case, there are usually other symptoms of nerve inflammation occurring elsewhere, too.
Sometimes there is tingling and soreness involved, sometimes it's just stiffness, numbness, lack of coordination, weakness, or sluggishness. I get that claw issue, too. Cold always makes it worse, and letting my hands stay cold (like I'm just going to stay outside for a few more minutes...) seems to damage my hands and make them take a while to recover. Super unnerving, no pun intended.
Massage helps. CBD. Essential oils used topically. And anything that chills out the nervous system (meditation, DNRS, tapping, etc.) seems to make a difference for me as well. I really just never heal unless I force myself to do those things, which for me is a challenge.
