Responding to Deejavu’s post:
I do remember swine flu. I knew of people who had it. I didn’t get it (thank God), even though I was in the ER at peak of season with my first onset of Lyme symptoms.
The difference is this virus is a worldwide pandemic - a virus that has quickly spread throughout most of the world. The US president and media may or may not be responding the way people want, but this virus is not an American illness. It’s a worldwide illness. Even my 82 year old mother doesn’t remember anything of this global magnitude.
Edit: I just looked up the CDC info on swine flu. I see it was also a pandemic, although I didn’t see the data on how globally far reaching it was. I don’t recall global disruptions to life at the time. Life went on even in my county, where people had the virus. A coworker got a call that her son fell out of his desk and had to go to the ER. I think he was treated in the ER and sent home.
