EBV early antigen (EA)

Has anyone else tested positive for EBV early antigen (EA) only?

If so, what’d your doctor say it meant?

This was months back. All my other EBV tests were negative

Not the early antigen. Mine was high on 2 others. Maybe you have acute or reactivated EBV? Do you have fevers or fatigue?

Resutlts of Epstein Barr blood tests have me completely thrown. There seems to be conflicting information on what the results mean.

For example, I have had high VCA IgG, VCA IgM, and EBNA IG for at least two years or more. Some EBV results charts show that as being an acute or reactivated EBV result. But others, like the Mayo Clnic chart, show that means a past infection as in all three positive makes it past infection.

Then you throw in the EBVDNA test, which a lot of doctors do not do. I have had four negative EBVDNA tests. Some only do the antibodies tests I mentioned above. But two infectious disease doctors, along with Dr. Jernigan at the Biologix Center, have said a negative EBVDNA test means EBV is not active.

That leaves me wondering how do three positives in antibodies make for a past infection. The negative EBVDNA means the virus is not replicating in your DNA. It's the antibodies that throw me.

I asked if you have been tested since the early antigen positive because the early antigen test would mean it was a new infection at the time of the test. If you were to retest now, then the other results might be positive.
