Hi everyone, I'm back on this board - now looking for herbal help for DH who had Lyme twice and was treated both times with one month of abx, had Covid last spring (likely-not confirmed as was in March before much was available) and now has Parkinson/Lyme like symptoms! Ugh...but I do have positive news as well. I'm almost afraid to post as to not jinx it ;)
Quick background: I posted for several years here starting around 2014 or 2015 or so while DS was in jr and senior high and battling Lyme, bart, babs and myco. He was treated by J Clinic in Washington DC with antibiotics, anti-malerials and some herbs and they truly got him over the hump and saved him.
He was undiagnosed for at least a year, was in treatment for 2.5-3 years, had stubborn myco and really went into a mental tailspin when he went off the treatment from J Clinic. His inflammation soared when he went off abx as he was still in high school and seemed to have high myco numbers the second he'd head back to school each Sept. It was super stressful and luckily he survived.
However after 2 really tough years with mental health battles, he's now in college, playing his sport and pretty much back at the brainpower level he was prior to getting sick. Over the holidays, he was home for 2 months and it's the first time since 7th grade that our son is truly back! It has been wonderful. Basically it took 6 years to get to this point so don't give up hope!
Other observations: his ADHD was diagnosed midway through his Lyme treatment and has gotten a bit better but other than that he's doing really well and hasn't had physical symptoms for several years, other than currently manageable knee and hip joint issues.
He even survived 2 bouts of Covid - one just last month - so my fingers are crossed he doesn't exhibit any long term symptoms from it. He did say he thought he would die from the first Covid in March - it was very similar to Lyme etc but only lasted 1 week. This second episode of Covid was just a few days then a head cold - much shorter and easier.
Looking back, I think all LLMDs should insist that patients visit with at minimum a therapist (even the teen boys) and have a psychiatrist picked out ahead of time. It was hard to get our teen to regularly take probiotics etc after he finished treatment. I believe that probiotics and a strict anti-inflammatory diet, herbs etc would have been beneficial and lessened the inflammation flare. Minocycline was really keeping inflammation down and going off of it unleashed a lot. However, with teens that can be near impossible after years of swallowing handfuls of pills, having eating issues etc...just my 2 cents worth. They just want to start living life - which despite the struggles - DS did - he made the most of it.
Anyway, I know I loved hearing recovery stories so I wanted to leave an update. I hope everyone here finds some relief and a return to a healthier life! Now, I'm off to read what others are up to and look for help for DH.
