When my child had a MRSA skin infection, her doctors insisted that the whole family use mupirocin ointment in our nostrils, applied by cotton swab twice per day for a week. (Apparently 30% of people carry staph bacteria in their noses is part of the normal flora, and 2% carry MRSA.) I also started using Xlear xylitol nasal spray (which also contains saline) to reach farther into the nasal cavities and sinuses. I remember finding recipes for neti pot rinses online as well.
