I find lavender the most helpful for anxiety, but I often use a trio of lavender, frankincense, and peppermint, which all three probably help me feel more calm. If pain is my main issue, then I add rose geranium.
If I have a headache or barometric pressure sickness, then I apply frankincense and peppermint to my temples, forehead, and back of my neck. You're supposed to use a carrier oil, but honestly I usually don't for this particular application, now that I know my skin can handle it, and it's just a couple of drops.
For sleep or dizziness, I place the main trio on a handkerchief (2-3 drops each) and just keep it next to me on a pillow.
For mood elevation and energy, I use peppermint and orange, on my wrists and neck. I have heard that melissa is the best essential oil for anxiety, but I have not tried it personally.
I made roller ball bottles of these blends with fractionated coconut oil as a carrier oil, but they smelled milder and staler after a while in the roller ball bottles. When the blends I made ran out, I just started using the oils directly. I know it's supposed to be better with a carrier oil, but in truth that's not what I usually do.
