Disulfiram: Safety of adjunct use with diazepam?

I am considering the possibility of Disulfiram treatment for chronic Lyme disease, but I am concerned about the seriousness of the potential interactions with benzodiazepines; specifically Diazepam, being that I am currently tapering off of it. From what I've gleaned thus far, Disulfiram oral has the potential to increase levels of diazepam by slowing drug metabolism, and competitively binds and inhibits the peripheral benzodiazepine receptor. How significant these effects are though in practical application, I cannot seem to reach a decisive answer. Does anyone here have some insight? Personal experiences? And even if you do not have experience, but have an evidence based opinion, I would be glad to hear it. Thanks much. - Anon

I've used Disulfiram with Clonazepam (Klonopin), no issues at all.

Don’t think this counts as evidence based, but coming off benzos, as I’m sure you’re quite well aware, can be quite difficult.

At the same time, disulfiram can have some pretty powerful mind-altering effects in the right individual. Seems like every few weeks there’s someone freaking out in here about psychological side effects from dsf. Dr K stopped using it very quickly for this reason, as far as I’m aware.

I know, like most of us, you’ve expressed some concerns on this board about mental health struggles as well.

Doesn’t seem like a good idea to start the dsf until you’ve tapered off the benzo imho. Just my $.02

I very much appreciate the input guys. Your opinions/experiences are a valuable anecdotal asset. I'll factor them, as well as any other input into my final decision. Definitely some variables to think on. Risk assessment is a real chtib sometimes.

I am not sure about diazepam.
But you might consider maybe just taking a very small amount of Disulfuram and not be tempted to start increasing the dose. Like maybe 1/8 of a 250 tablet so about 32mg or even less, once a week. It will accumulate quickly because of its half-life so you do not need to increase it.
This is what I am doing.

It is also extremely important to detox with an activated charcoal, Bentonite combo etc (2pills) twice a day away from meals and supplements.
Also at least epsom salt footpaths.

The first time I wasn’t detoxing much and lulled into increasing too much and thought was ok because not much side effects but then crashed and did not feel well, I’m thinking maybe mast cell from not detoxing, and took too much (was up to 125 twice a day).
Before that I was feeling benefit.

I recently started again at small dose and it seems to remove certain symptoms for me like twitching etc. I have heard it is anti-cancer and maybe antiviral not sure tho.

It seems to be effective at small doses and if don’t fall into thinking to increase the dose to try to attempt to ‘cure’ mentality you can just be grateful for the benefit it can have. Be careful and treat yourself gently.

I also recommend the dnrs program. You can hear differing positions on it but I think it is helpful to anyone and this type of focus is a missing piece of puzzle for mental well-being and so benefit for overcoming health issues and trauma - which we all tend to experience in some form in this world.
I wish I had started it sooner.
