its the closest thing in their frame of references to liken it to - so it becomes that thing for them
I'm certain this has happened nearly everyone at one time or another.
In my particular case (prior to my formal diagnosis), a "coffee clutch" got together
and made their impromptu medical diagnosis that I was having repeating "Anxiety Attacks",
and Prozac-like meds would fix everything.
It sunk me one level lower than I already needed to be.....
RobI got bit in July. I had minor symptoms until a few months later in November when I had a "pot boiling over' event that sent me to the ER. In December I was on something like my 6th doctor's office looking for an answer. The NP there decided I had anxiety. I was a 29 year old in great physical shape male. I was not taken seriously. She told me a story about
how anxiety can cause physical symptoms. I knew this was true, but I know my body, and what was happening to me wasn't normal. She prescribed Lexapro. I was so desperate for an answer I took it, but only for 5 days. Of course, it did nothing. I got mad that I was blown off as an anxiety attack like that. I went back to that Dr's office and demanded to see the doctor. He asked me about
any recent tick bites, and the metaphorical light bulb went off over my head. It's crazy how medical personnel won't won't take you seriously.
