Feeling lot worse after trying Zantac

My mom tried taking Zantac, and it seems to have made her belching and similar symptoms a LOT worse. Seems like her gut motility is worse too. Any ideas as to why this would happen? She is miserable. Gaggy at times. She is limited as to things she can tolerate to try to mitigate. I think she has Bart and we plan to continue treating her for it, but I'm a little cautious about putting her back on ABX while she is so flared up. Thanks.

I Would recommend taking Pepcid complete, not Zantac, Zantac never helped me and sometimes made the gerd I had a lot worse

She can't tolerate Pepcid either. It riles her up too.

Is it the old Zantac? (Ranitidine)

Because nowadays Zantac (Zantac 360) is Famotidine, which is the same ingredient as pepcid.

The old one (Ranitidine) was contaminated with N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) apparently, so the FDA decided to ban it.

Does she have SIBO or insufficient stomach acid? I would guess that Zantac reducing stomach acid would make those conditions worse.

Hope she finds something helpful!

I am hoping that the more progress I make treating Bartonella, the less GI symptoms I will have.I have noticed that treatment has stirred up my digestive system. . I take digestive enzymes, but when my system is angry I cannot seem to find relief. The enzymes are no doubt are busting biofilms so this might be adding to symptoms.

There is another post on Gerd recently.

As usual I recommend d-limonine by jarrow. It works for about 90% of people to try it.

Having too much stomach acid is actually somewhat unlikely, conventional medicine has a lot of this wrong.

you need stomach acid to digest.

The reason Gerd or acid reflux starts in the first place and get stuck in that cycle is usually from one bad episode of it do the food or whatever, that burns the LES valve hindering it somewhat inoperable.

Citrus oil in the Dlimonine Coats and protects the stomach and esophagus And LES lining. It heals tissue. There is no RX medicine that does this. Sooner than later the LES begins to operate properly again.

As to what the episode caused that in the first place, candida those are things that need to be looked at and understood.

Note: candida, SIBO , leaky gut and Gerd many times go together.

Hypothyroid can also cause this from too low stomach acid. If you don’t have enough stomach acid you can get Gerd. T3 levels are more related to Gerd than T4.

Saraeli, Mom took Rifaximin for two weeks in case she had SIBO. She seemed to have some die off but her major symptoms didn't seem to improve. I do think she has low stomach acid especially considering the Zantac reaction. MargaritaLyme, my suspicion is Bartonella, parasites, etc which I think will have to be treated in order for her to improve. Her belching improved one time after a Sica Acuta and Houttuynia herx.

What is your treatment for Bart, Margarita?

Thanks for the tips, astroman. Her thyroid looked ok to me at recent labs.

Thankfully, Mom has calmed down. She's still uncomfortable but is no longer in the horrid flare from Zantac.

I am utilizing biomenetic pair therapy as my treatment. It is difficult to succinctly describe the therapy and how it works in a post but there is information on it out there. It has proven to be a good treatment choice for me as I believe my system was simply too overloaded to handle antibiotics or herbal treatment. Additionally I have the advantage of knowing which infection my therapist is targeting at each session so I can observe which side effects I am experiencing due to the die off of that particular infection
