Happy Friday....

I usually say this at work on Friday mornings, but I took the day off, so I have to say it to someone......ha ha...

When my lyme was bad and I barely managed to work , the thought of Friday with two days off Was such a relief. ) I didn’t always have weekends off so I know Fridays are not a day to celebrate for everybody). And of course, for anyone older than 40 here when you were a kid there was always Saturday morning cartoons to look forward to, lol.

A regional snowstorm mostly missed my area Monday.,, Then warmed up, so typical fall projects can resume. It’s amazing when you put everything off because of lyme , how many things add up on your to do list. I’ve been trimming trees all summer, just had a little bonfire last night. Got that checked off.

Rode my mnt bike in the dark with my light on a short nature trail the other cool fall night With gloves and hat on,....came across a dark colored animal, I hissed at it and it hissed back louder, I rode like mad to get away! I think it was just a really fat, really dark raccoon.

Took a short walk this morning, The leaves in the woods are loud with all the animals running through them. I certainly cherish these last warm days of fall, It’s not gonna last long. The animals certainly know, The vast array and colors of squirrels are just going nuts (literally) hiding nuts for their winter food bank. If you’ve never seen a squirrel with a walnut in its mouth, it’s quite hilarious. It’s like they hit the jackpot, but aren’t certain what to do with it.

Deep sleep - Mtn bike trail riding via artificial light is a different experience, but you have to be prepared.

I only ride short, easy local trails if alone in the dark.

Of course safety also depends on if there are any predatory animals in that area. Night riding in western US with a grizzly bears and mountain lions? No thanks!

No grizzlies here, however there have been a few rare and increasingly more mountain lion sightings, near and possibly/probably on some of my same “local” trails. They’ve been spotted a half mile from my home,....so yes, I think about that a little.!😮

My favorite technical longer trails that I would need to drive too, do have a few more predator animals so I don’t night ride mountain bikes there, not yet anyway, and certainly never will alone. In the past, I have come across those larger critters at night in group snowmobile rides, and yes it can be a bit hairy, until .....you hit the throttle.

winter riding at night: with perfect conditions on a fat snow bike, it can be a lot of fun since headlights brighten up the snowy landscape pretty easy. Also fun riding on the frozen lake packed snow roads that ice fishermen use. For night, my fat snow bike has three lights on the handlebars, sometimes one on my helmet visor and one in my pocket. I keep telling myself this is fun until summer comes.

Try it sometime, you might like it.
