EBV Titers and Lyme/Bartonella

Hi,

I have a question regarding my EBV titers and Lyme. My EBV was always active(without symptoms) even the IGM for the last 6 years. I discovered I have Lyme and Bartonella. Since I started treatment for Lyme six months ago the EBV titers keep increasing. I started treatment for Bartonella three weeks ago and up again. Does anyone have experience with this? Is this just because my body is busy fighting the Lyme etc and it will go down after that? My doctor doesn't seem to concerned, but I am. I don't know why it keeps going up while I m treating Lyme when it should be going down? Thanks for your help.

I have tested positive for VCA IGM, VCA IGG, and Nuclear Antigen for as long as I have been tested for EBV. about six years since my first LLMD visit. My early antigen has always been negative. EBV PCR has always been negative. I've never really got a good answer to this testing.

My first LLMD said those numbers should improve as I beat Lyme. Well I never beat Lyme and the numbers never improved. Then, he said that he suspected EBV might be a big player in my illness, but, the only thing we did was try valtrex for a short period which did nothing. My current LLMD was intrigued when I told him I had painful non-swollen lymph nodes constantly and that my IGM, IGG, and nuclear antigen were always positive. He said it was interesting but nothing could be done anyways so not to worry about it. Jeez. Thanks. Lol.

MY past LLMD wanted me to do IV ozone, Vit c, Myers, and glutathione to try and treat "everything". I never did it but I'm leaning towards giving ozone an actual try.

I do wonder if EBV is a player in my illness, and if so, how much of a player.

Lyme and EBV antibodies are known to cross react - there are published studies on that - but few LLMD's seem to be aware

the test measures only the immune system response - not the organisms themselves - so its therefore likely that your immune system is simply making antibodies that show up on the EBV tests in response to the Lyme infection - rather than EBV being a major issue itself.

treating lyme often has the immune systems response to lyme increase. Some people only become sero - positive ( make antibodies to lyme ) after treatment has started.

so my guess would be that is what is happening in your case - kill more lyme spirochetes - expose more lyme antigens to the immune system - immune system gets revved up and makes more antibodies - but to EBV as well since its likely making those due to lyme in the first place.

if you are still concerned - a PCR based test for EBV should be able to tell you if you have actively replicating EBV in any significant way

Thank you Garzie. That makes sense. I actually do have a negative PCR EBV test, so thank you for that information. I wont worry given that.
