but - i thought it worth highlighting to others reading that these studies are based on statistical computer models of predicted binding affinities of various molecules to other molecules based on their assumed shapes, charge, etc

this is a relatively new and fast moving field and normally constitutes just a first step in finding and trailing druggable small molecule candidates.

its important to be aware that not all bindings will occur the way they are predicted in the computer model when tested in the real world
so as the paper says further in-vitro trials - of actual chemicals in test tubes -
and then in-vivo trials - of actual chemical in animals - are required to confirm the findings

at these later stages - even if binding is as expected - there are also many other considerations of things like - absorption, tissue penetration, half life etc that need to be within certain ranges for a substance to be useful

so not to knock the findings of the original study - just to put them in context of the larger process of drug discovery

if a compound is known to be non-toxic as these seem to be - then there is likely little risk to trying herbs which contain them - but equally - active concentrations, absorption etc may not be known
