I know that when I do any work with my hands overhead, I end up with tight trap muscles which tends to pull a vertebrae out of alignment in my neck (always on my right side.)
And I also lifted dumbbells overhead the wrong way and had that problem…I end up with a headache across the back of my head (top of neck area.)
I used to go to my Chiropractor for this & he told me that I had to strengthen those muscles in the upper back/neck area. He showed me some “at home” exercises to do…one was to put your back & arms against a wall and slowly raise/slide your arms upwards.
The other thing that helps me is one of those massage machines that has rotating balls that you plug in (for upper back or neck.) I can’t remember where I bought it. I just keep that on my upper back or neck area until the knot disappears…the area usually feels sore afterwards though…but at least headache is gone.
