Adaptogens can be tricky. I tend to have paradoxical effects from them. Ashwagandha is good for me, and cordyceps and reishi are fine for me, but others have made me feel terrible, even at just one drop. Rhodiola made me highly irritable and gave me brain fog. Holy basil made me anxious and panicky. Eleuthero made me sleep for 24 hours straight. None of those effects are what was supposed to happen!
Some of the ingredients in the adrenal formula might be increasing your immune system activity, which could make you feel herx-like symptoms if you have any immune dysregulation, like MCAS, autoimmunity, or auto-inflammatory processes.
Just to calm the body, I would go for cannabis (indica) or CBD. Secondarily, I would try magnesium, chamomile, passionflower, motherwort, kava, and lemon balm.
I agree with Garzie's advice to try anything new extremely slowly, and one ingredient at a time. That's what I have had to do.
Other options for neurological inflammation are Jernigan Neuro-Antitox and Burbur-Pinella. I didn't notice much benefit from them, personally, but they didn't make me feel worse, and they were two of the very few supplements that I didn't react poorly to! Some people swear by them.
If ingesting things isn't doing enough for you, then there are loads of mind-body medicine resources out there that can be enormously helpful once you have built the skills (i.e. it won't necessarily feel life-changing on the first try). The Curable chronic illness app and limbic system retraining programs can make a big difference, and there are so many simple anxiety apps and YouTube videos for guided meditations and such.
Craniosacral therapy also can be fantastic for chilling out the nervous system. Also tapping (EFT), acupuncture, acupressure, vagus nerve toning exercises, somatic therapy, essential oils, yoga....
I have not found that herbs or even drugs have provided meaningful relief of nervous system dysregulation, physical and emotional anxiety, etc. For me it took ongoing work, but very much paid off.
I hope you find simple and quick relief!
