Not to beat a dead horse, but :
Five days into this early evening darkness, and I’m reminded how much it sucks!
I googled this subject and surprisingly there are some people who dislike daylight savings time and prefer standard time even if we had it in the summer. These are mostly people that go to bed very early and generally do not do things outside in the evening. (Yes it can be daylight until 10 p.m. towards the end of June, where I’m at, but that’s what shades and drapes are for in your bedroom windows.)
Umm……Doing things outside with natural daylight is healthier for the human body, versus watching TV or reading inside under man-made light.
I personally would do more things outside in the winter early evening (ice/snow biking, walking, skiing, etc.) if there was more light out, despite my area usually being the coldest US region outside of Alaska. I actually do more outside activities in the early evening towards the end of February, even though it’s still cold, because it’s starting to stay light out till 6 PM then.
One of the reasons most people gain weight in the winter time is because: they are not exercising outside because since it’s cold, and it’s dark. Plus some are more likely to eat more to soothe low light /winter depression. Eliminate some of the reasons, and they are more likely to get some exercise , and maybe eat less too.
