Is there any consensus on what the difference(s) are between NDT and a T3 + T4 combo?
Is it just the T2 or is there more missing?
The reason I'm asking is because what I was thinking is that maybe the thyroid community would benefit more from 'reverse engineering' NDT and making it available without using pigs.
It might never be completely the same without costs going through the roof for production, but maybe a pharmaceutical company can get really close to it.
That way you would still play by the (corrupt) FDA's rules and get what you want.
Rainy, what your mentioning looks like the plan I will try again, but also with health food store T2 (non Rx) in the mix, but just not yet.....
Last time I tried all available versions of synthetic thyroid hormones ('07 and earlier), I still also had lyme disease. When I switched to Pig thyroid ('08), many symptoms went away or improved. The remaining and different symptoms were lyme and Co/infections. Sorting this out was confusing.
Some Synthetic thyroid Rx facts:
-They've had synthetic Rx T4 (the storage hormone) thyroid since the very early 70's. Thats what 85% of people use. But only about
half of those people feel good on it. Some never try anything else as most Drs wont suggest anything more.
-Some people dont feel well on synthetic thyroid of any type. Its "free" to use in their blood, but cells dont like it sometimes. Thus the "free T4 and T3" test, shows whats available, NOT what your cells are using (we cant test that!!!)
-Some people dont convert the t4 to the t3 active fast life hormone that is made on demand in our bodies. The synthetic t3 rushes into you blood fast, it feels like an illegal drug to some people, then wheres off till you next multi day dose.

NDT (Natural Dessicated pig Thyroid) thyroid facts:
Even though the amount of T3 in NDT "pig" thyroid is higher than what humans need, its a more gradual acting, so is preferred by many.
NDT also has ALL of the other lesser amounts of thy hormones: T2, and some others (T5?)

****Best possible synthetic thyroid and natural combination that Ive not tried:****
-Rx Synthetic T4
-Rx Synthetic T3 SLOW release (Not Avalable in US??)
-Suppliment Natural T2 (Dr Westin Childs sells this)
