Herxing while on abx for a bladder infection?

Greetings,
I was dignosed with Lyme in June of 2023. I found a functional practitioner who is currently treating me with Is-Borr (immunity support), Biocidin LSF (microbial balance support and Biofilm disruptor),
Carboxy (Microbiome and Immune support), and Methylene Blue. She will switch supplements and adjust dosage according to muscle testing results at each visit.
I'm currently fighting a bladder infection which began on September 3, and was not completely wiped out by the first round of abx. This past Saturday(the 14) it flared up again and the local GP gave me a script for a stronger abx, generic Bactrim DS (Sulfamethoxazole-TMP DS) . A couple of days later I started feeling lousy, with right side chest pain, fatigue, malaise, burning pain in abdomen,and feeling super woozy. Kind of like some of my prior Lyme symptoms.
I'm just wondering if it's a herx reaction? Not sure if this type of abx is effective against Lyme. Wondering if I should stop my other meds temporarily to see if it alleviates the symptoms.

yes - most likely a herx reaction

Bactrim DS is broad spectrum and will be active for Lyme and most co-infections

i am all for supporting the immune system - but not many people are able to recover from that alone - so it sounds like your lyme protocol may be a little light on antimicrobials ( most recognised LLMDs use 3 or more abx in combination)

for info - methylene blue can be helpful for things like mood and energy in low doses - say around 50 or 100mg a day - but is not really active for Lyme as a persister drug until much higher doses are used - more like 600mg per day - which is rarely done because of tolerability issues.

It’s certainly possible to be a herx reaction but when I looked up the side effects it mentions calling your doc if symptoms like you are having should occur. You could be having a reaction to the abx that you would have had even if you didn’t have Lyme. I would let the doc know.

WalkingbyFaith, that is an interesting point. The practitioner told me she would do a urine culture if the Bactrim didn't work, but she was pretty sure it would. Time will tell...
