Rifabutin Herx?

Started back on rifabutin a month ago. 6 days in horrible pins and needles around my whole upper torso. Stomach, chest, back etc. Very warm skin. A 101.7 temp. Just felt very bad. I went off it for a week and started back on again. Roughly 12 days back on and the same symptoms flared up late last night. The worsening of my neuropathy, hot skin, 102 fever etc. Should I take another break or just push through? I feel horrible. I'm assuming this is a herx for me and my bartonella. Rifampin didn't do anything to me but this stuff definitely does being stronger.

hey eric, i just had kind of the same expierence. I took rifampicin for 2 months. Didnt had any bart herx or symptoms. After 2 weeks of rifabutin i had massive pain, my feets are swollen and i got fever. I made a break and started again on a dosage of 150mg. I read it a lot that people get fever at the begging, so just try to stick around 150mg. Im at the moment fine with 300mg. But also every time when im adding tini i feel a lot worst. It just takes time, dont try to push trough....

Yes I believe Rifabutin is stronger than Rifampin .

Prior to seeing DrJ I was under the care of an LLND who had me take Rifampin (not pulsed) with one or two other abx.
I improved but not fully.

A few years later I was under the care of DrJ and he prescribes Rifabutin (plus other abx)

I had severe herxing and I am fully healed.

If you are having fever it means rifabutin is killing stuff, which is good news. I remember I had fever too the first time I took it, after about two weeks. Keep going and good luck with it.
