Lyme or Alzheimer's ??? What do you all think...

My husband has been diagnosed with lyme since 2002 - but we believe he was bit in 95 and went untreated.  He has had problems with memory, confusion, dizziness, no sleep or too much sleep, etc etc etc.  His neurologist has always been hell bent on it not being lyme even thought he had a positive spinal tap - he also suffers from babesia and Q fever. 

This neurologist has performed MRI and SPEC scan both inconclusive for alzheimers - reports say not consistent.  So confused and don't know what to think -

Is it lyme ??????

I think your first concern should be finding a new neurologist who isn't anti-lyme, or at least one who will actually pay attention to results of tests I can only assume he ordered. Why run tests if he is going to disregard the results when they don't meet his guidelines? What reasons does the neuro give for not believing it to be lyme?

I would go with the test results and symptoms to get my answers, but I only have my common sense and my SPMD (Self Proclaimed Medical Degree,) I don't know his reasons although by nature I question his motives.

lyme just gets in there and messes everything up across the board. My mri and spec showed noithing either. and I could barely drive there.

A positive spinal tap? I would definitely pursue treatment for Lyme disease from a Lyme literate doctor.

i would like to know if anyone here does , how can they tell if you have lymes by doing a spinal tap? what is the perpus of this?
my nero wants to do this to me. i am very scared to have this done.do to already haven a bad back.

the lyme bacteria can be seen in spinal fluid just like it can in blood. Probably more so. But I would ask your dr how it would change treatment before you do it. If you are going to get the same garbage of "the test is positive, but that isn't what it is" or "the test is positive but I still can't help you," then I am not sure I would want it done either.

I think I remember reading that a spinal tap shows positive in less than 30% of the patients with confirmed LD.  Ask lots of questions before consenting to a spinal tap.
