VANCOMYCIN - SCREWED ME

I did not "pass" the vancomycin allergy test............... which means I'm screwed.  Dr. C has done almost everything for me except leave me on the rocephin for 3 - 6 months (which he won't do).

i'm here but sorry i cant help you. i wish we would all have the answers we seek, and that there was a cure for all. so none of us would be going tho this nightmare called Lyme

An allergy specialist may be able to desensitize you to Vanco. I'm also allergic to it, but I found out the hard way.

So what is the easy way to find out if you are allergic to an ABX before taking it?  I ask because I found out the hard way with Ceftin and honestly having an allergic reaction on top of lyme makes a unbelievable situation impossible to bear.

I didn't post because I didn't know what Vancomycin was. Is it an antibiotic or is it in IV antibiotics?

I don't know anything about it either and have never yet had an allergy. Geeesh, it seems pretty scary! Abx allergies can be extremely grave!

Vancomycin is an IV antibiotic. Allergists can do a test to determine if you are allergic to certain antibiotics - I think they usually do an intradermal injection of the drug if they don't have a standard prick test serum for the antibiotic.

I am so sorry you did not pass the "test".

Vanco is an extemely powerful drug, and known as a last line defense drug for many infections.

How come Dr. C will not leave you on IV R for 3-6 months?

Uggggg - Yes, I was sent to an Allergist/Immune. dr. and had a pin prick test done with the vanco and I swelled up. Today, everything hurts... it's 6:34am and E V E R Y T H I N G hurts.

Vitamin C may help you feel better - it is a natural antihistamine and is supposed to help reduce allergy symptoms.
