Actually, there is more than one LLMD in Texas!! If you would send me an email telling me that you are looking for a LLMD in Texas, I'll be happy to share that information with you!
The reason a LLMD is needed is because they have received special training from ILADS on treating these infections, what to do when the person is herxing, what to do when the person hits a plateau or a road block to their healing -all of which differ from those that don't have these infections.
Sometimes a person must use a non LLMD because there are none within driving distances - which is what happened to me. But my doc had to spend hours and hours each week learning about this reaction or that reaction, what to do when I herxed and what to avoid. She actually said that she will never again knowingly treat another Lyme patient due to all the extra work that was involved! We usually need doctors that are very well educated in these aspects of healing - and why we aren't healing sometimes.
