CALDA (California Lyme Disease Assoc) holds 'Lymewalks' to raise awareness & money for the Lyme community. Since they explain it best, I just copied & pasted;
"The 2010 CALDA Lymewalks are a series of events throughout California in September and October. The purpose is to raise the profile of Lyme disease in our state and to raise money for Lyme disease research.
Walks are planned for Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, San Francisco, Ukiah and Humboldt County. However, you can be a "virtual walker" anywhere.
Here's how it works:
You make a personal fundraising page on the 2010 CALDA Lymewalks website. (There's no cost to you and we'll show you how to do it.) You set a fundraising goal. You use the page to tell your Lyme story. You can use photos, words, video — whatever helps you best show why raising money for the struggle against Lyme disease is so important to you.
You send the link to your family, friends, colleagues — anybody you think can help you reach your goal.
If you like, you can make a fundraising team. Members of your Lyme support group, church, club or other organization.
People who want to donate will click on your link, which will take them directly to your personal page. They will make a secure donation to CALDA by credit card. (It's tax deductible.) A "fundraising progress" thermometer on your page will show how close you are to meeting your goal."
Here is a link to get to that page on the CALDA website;
