Little finger has curved inwards--painful and red

My little finger curved a bit towards the next finger, instead of being straigt.  It started about 2 weeks ago.  It was v. painful, but today has been the worse so far.  The little joint above the nail is the only place it hurts and that is where it is red and curved.  It is a stabbing pain that comes and goes every minute or two and lasts for 10 seconds or so.  I am on abx for Lyme and this happened while on abx.  I've had 3 lousy days in a row (I had to take a nap during the day yesterday and today), I am wondering if this has something to do with the pain being worse.  Pain seems to switch all over, from day to day. 

Has anyone had this happen, and if so, did it go away?

So, am I the only one/no one else has this problem?  After 2 horrible days, I have had an almost perfect day today--on days like this I wonder if I am really sick or just getting better?

No, you are not alone in this. I haven't heard many people that deal with this, but I sure do! I have several fingers that have twisted and/or now curve one way or the other & the actual joints in my fingers are swollen. Oh,, and don't forget the pain that goes with it! Cold really make my hands hurt any more.

It sounds like what you are experiencing may be from a herx maybe. The pain switching all over your body is common for a herx and as a symptom of Lyme (I believe). Are you taking anything for pain? Tramadol has helped me out with some of that pain. I'll even sit with a heating pad wrapped around my hands - one at a time.

Thanks Trav, I was starting to feel so lonely, LOL!  

The little joint in question is a little swollen. Pain has been much better today there, and great in general, still a little unballanced on my feet and the soles of my feet hurt! Cold makes my hands hurt, also, I just didn't know there is a connection w. lyme.  I've read an article a few days ago posted here, and the lady had these happen with her toes.  She said is from the L shaped bacteria.

Not taking anything for pain, still trying to tough it out, I will take something if it becomes unbearable.  My hands are cold almost all the time.  One day this summer when it really hit me, I was really out of it, so cold all over, I put my fleece robe on (in the summer) and took the baby for a walk.  I was so foggy and cold, I even put a fleece blanket on and could not get warm.  I forgot I was wearing my robe, and went on the street like that LOL


Now that the weather is cooling down, I'd have to start looking into making my own hefir, I will try this weekend to dig through my emails and find your great suggestions.

I've never had any fingers bend like you describe but I do get pain in my fingers quite a bit. Lyme pain tends to migrate (one day it'll be in the larger joints like the hips, and the next it could be in the smaller joints like fingers and toes)... You're right about the pain though - it's very sharp and throbs. Other times I get horrible cramping inside my fingers and hands, like I constantly want to shake them out but it hurts even to move them. It always goes away for me - sometimes lasts a few days, then goes away until the next "episode." Holding a cold/ice soft-pack sometimes helps a little, or soaking in a bath to away the gravity/tension on the joints.

Thanks, madrivergirl! It's been a lot better, now the soles of me feet have been my worst symptom for the past few days... Not sure if it is lyme or bartonella. I tested neg for bartonella, but my LLMD thinks I have it.

I know what you mean about not being able to warm up. I actually deal with this quite a bit, as I have a low body temp - like a lot of Lymies.

Now, as soon as I realize that is what is happening, I go into my kitchen, fix a nice cup of hot herbal tea, and start layering my clothes!! Big fluffy socks, heavy sweat pants and at least a sweat shirt & then a blanket to get under. I stay there until my body temp comes back up!!!

Hubby actually gets a giggle out of it, I can understand why - I must look strange with temps up in the 90's outside & I look like I'm going snow skiing!!! :) :)

If your finger is curving in and red and painful, you may want to let your doctor know. I have RA and this is what my fingers do. Lyme Disease can definitely cause arthritis. It is called Lyme Arthritis. I'm not saying that you have RA, but you definitely need to get it looked at.

Thanks for your input, I forgot to ask him last time and I won't see him until Nov 2nd. I was tested for RA 2 times this year, and that is not what is going on with me. Both tests came negative and I have been on abx since then. It was not bothering me when I saw him last month, although it did bother me a few days prior. I forgot all about it, I thought it went away at the time of the appointment. It is still curved, although not painful anymore. My worst symptom for the last few days has been sore sole feet (painful) and hot patches on my head (annoying and sometimes painful as well)

Yes, I had one test for Bartonella that came neg at Quest this year, a couple of months ago. My LLMD thinks I have bartonella, also.
