Can they be taken together?

I don't want to keep bombarding the Dr with questions.

I start Rocephin next week 2 x per week (starting out low building to 2 grams) and I am on 300mg Doxy a day building up to 400mg

Susie, please don't ever stop asking your doctor questions! You really need to ask him/her this one, because even if someone here has taken them together, perhaps your doctor wanted you to stop the doxy when you started the Rocephin.

I have taken other antibiotics while on Rocephin: zithromax and Alinia. But I had stopped doxy a few months before I started on the Rocephin.

I just looked them up on epocrates.com. It's a drug book website. The two are not contraindicated, which means they are ok to take together.

I suggest that everyone sign up at www.epocrates.com and download their free drug book onto your PDA or phone. It's a must have with all the drugs we're always taking. The downside is not herbal info.

Are you taking oral Rocephin or IV? I'm having a port-a-cath placed in a few days to start IV.

I agree with nasalady, don't stop or feel bad asking a gazillion questions. Lyme disease is ultra expensive and you're paying for the right to ask the same question 20+ times if needed!!!

Hey Susie,

They can definately be taken together. I did 400mg of Doxy for 4 months and 2g of Rocephin twice weekly for 6 weeks.  My wife did the same. No problems other that some tiredness at the begining from the Rocephin, but it fades. Your in good hands with Dr. K, he's not able to treat as aggresively as the true LLMD's, but I feel that he is by far our best option as a doc here in Florida.
