I discovered something the hard way that I wanted to pass along to everyone here who might be curious as to why exercising may cause them to feel worse afterwards. I'd been running and doing light weights and would notice that afterwards I felt terrible- sometimes as bad as I'd felt when I first came down with Lyme. After an especially difficult run that caused the worst herx I've ever had, I did some research and found that Lyme hides in... fat cells.
And when you burn these fat cells, they are released (especially Bartonella) into your system, causing not only a herx, but at least in my case, a complete return of symptoms. After wondering what the hell was going on, this made a lot of sense to me- I'd always feel awful if I exercised or didn't eat much in a given day, but would always feel better if I ate- especially fattening foods like cheese or anything with oil in it. As a result of knowing this, I can now plan my days based around if I need to feel well enough to function at a meeting or a business trip, or if I feel like I can exercise and take the herx (I am no longer running, but walking briskly and still doing light weights), and it's made a huge difference in my ability to control my symptoms.
In any event, I was unaware of this correlation until recently, and thought there might be others who were experiencing similar problems and didn't know why, so I wanted to share. I hope it helps!
